While we find that most people have great service on the mountain we do want to make note that our vacation rentals do not have wifi access at this time.

SMOKING POLICY

Smoking is prohibited inside all cabins and buildings. Smoking is permitted outdoors only. Guests must properly dispose of all cigarette butts and smoking materials. Violation of this policy will result in additional cleaning charges.

DOGS WELCOME!

Dogs are welcome with prior approval from Thunder Mountain LLC. A maximum of two dogs per cabin is permitted unless otherwise approved before your stay. Cats and other pets may be considered on a case by case basis with prior approval.

Thunder Mountain Trail Rules

Welcome to Thunder Mountain. Our property is designed for riders who love exploring the mountains and everything southern West Virginia has to offer. Please ride responsibly so everyone can enjoy a safe and unforgettable experience.

1. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Off road riding is an inherently dangerous activity.

By operating an ATV, UTV, dirt bike, motorcycle, or any other recreational vehicle on or around Thunder Mountain, you acknowledge that you are riding at your own risk and accept full responsibility for your actions.

Please review and follow the Official Thunder Mountain LLC Liability Waiver and Release.

2. SAFETY FIRST

Always ride within your ability and experience level.

We strongly recommend wearing:

  • A DOT approved helmet

  • Eye protection

  • Gloves

  • Long sleeves and pants

  • Over the ankle boots

Never allow inexperienced riders to operate machines beyond their skill level.

Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising minors at all times.

3. RESPECT NEIGHBORING LAND OWNERS

Thunder Mountain is proud to be part of a community that values responsible recreation.

Please respect neighboring landowners by staying on approved roads and trails.

Do not trespass onto private property without permission.

4. NO RIDING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Operating any recreational vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.

Guests who appear impaired may be asked to leave the property immediately without refund.

5. NO RECKLESS RIDING!

Please ride responsibly while on Thunder Mountain property.

The following activities are prohibited:

  • Excessive speed

  • Burnouts

  • Doughnuts

  • Wheelies

  • Racing

  • Reckless operation

  • Riding through cabins or parking areas at unsafe speeds

Unsafe riding may result in immediate removal from the property without refund.

6. SPEED LIMITS

Slow down when approaching cabins, pedestrians, or parked vehicles.

7. STAY ON MARKED TRAILS

Always remain on designated trails and legal riding areas.

Cutting new trails, damaging vegetation, or riding through streams or protected areas is prohibited.

Help us preserve the mountains for future generations.

8. TRAILER PARKING

Trailers over thirty feet should remain parked in the designated parking area at the bottom of the mountain.

Smaller trailers may be brought to the cabins when conditions allow.

Please contact us before arrival if you have questions about access.

9. MACHINE WASHING

Please wash machines only in designated areas when available.

Do not wash vehicles in a manner that allows mud, oil, fuel, or chemicals to enter streams, drainage areas, or neighboring properties.

10. RESPECT THE MOUNTAINS

Help us keep Thunder Mountain beautiful by packing out trash, respecting wildlife, and leaving the trails better than you found them.

Responsible riders help protect trail access for everyone.

11. FOLLOW THE HATFIELD AND MCCOY TRAIL RULES WHEN RIDING THE HATFIELD AND MCCOY TRAILS

Guests are responsible for following all rules and regulations established by the Hatfield McCoy Trail System. Valid trail permits are required where applicable. Please obey all trail signs, closures, and posted speed limits.

Thunder Mountain LLC is not responsible for citations or fines resulting from violations.

Thank you for riding responsibly and helping us make Thunder Mountain a place riders can enjoy for years to come.

Firewood:

Firewood may be available on site depending on the season. Please burn only clean firewood in the designated fire pit. Never leave a fire unattended. Always make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving it.

Trail Access:

One of the best parts about staying at Thunder Mountain is that you can ride directly from your cabin. We are located directly off Pocahontas Trail 13 and Trail 17 of the Hatfield McCoy Trail System. From there you can access Indian Ridge, Pinnacle Creek, Warrior, and Virginia's Spearhead Trails.

Please make sure all riders have the required trail permits before riding.

During Your Stay:

Please treat the cabins and property with care. Help us keep Thunder Mountain clean by placing trash in the designated containers. Respect neighboring property owners and other guests. Enjoy your stay and make yourself at home.

Before leaving, please take a few minutes to complete the following:

  • Wash and put away all used dishes.

  • Place all trash in the designated outdoor containers.

  • Remove all food from the refrigerator.

  • Turn off lights, televisions, and small appliances.

  • Close and lock all windows and doors.

  • Make sure all personal belongings have been removed.

  • If a physical key was provided, return it as instructed.

Before You Leave:

Take one last look around the cabin. Check closets, bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, and under beds for any personal belongings. If you accidentally leave something behind, contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to help return lost items.

Our cabins are privately owned and carefully maintained so every guest can enjoy a clean, comfortable, and relaxing stay.

We simply ask that you treat the property with the same care and respect you would your own.

DAMAGE RESPONSIBILITY

Guests are responsible for any damage caused by themselves, members of their party, visitors, children, or pets beyond normal wear and tear.

Please report any accidental damage as soon as possible.

Honest communication allows us to make repairs quickly and often helps prevent additional charges.

EXCESSIVE CLEANING

Please leave the cabin in a clean and orderly condition.

Normal cleaning is included with every reservation.

Additional cleaning charges may apply if excessive cleaning is required.
